Effective advocacy requires evidence. NZSME invests in independent, evidence-based research on the issues that most affect New Zealand small businesses — from employment law and tax to digital infrastructure and sustainability.
Our policy team produces formal submissions to government consultations, pre-Budget briefs, and public policy positions. Every position we take is grounded in data from our membership and reviewed for consistency with our independence policy.
Our flagship publication, the annual State of SME Report, surveys NZ small business owners on conditions they face — confidence, access to credit, regulatory burden, digital readiness — and benchmarks them over time.
