Our independence

NZSME answers only to its members.

NZSME is not aligned to any political party, and no single sponsor or funder controls our voice. Our independence policy caps how much support any one source can provide, so our advocacy always represents our members, not any other party.

We partner with organisations that share our commitment to small business, but partnership never buys influence over our positions, and we do not endorse partner products or services.

This structure means that when we appear before a select committee, submit on a regulation, or comment publicly on policy, we are accountable to our members — not to a party headquarters, a single large funder, or a commercial sponsor.

Our independence is not a talking point. It is a structural commitment, enforced by our constitution and our funding policy.

Full independence policy and funder disclosures will be published here as they become available. Governance documents are available under Board & Governance. View Board & Governance →
